Description
On December 6, 2013, the southern Willamette Valley received an unusual 7" snow storm, as well as 6 days of temps as low as -12. I have several hummers that spend the night in a large rhododendron bush. These little birds allowed me to get very close, do to the fact that I brought them fresh warm food each morning. I took these photos with a muted flash. I believe this allowed me to show the detail of the color and feathers. This is a composite of photo 2,3,4,and 5.

It`s amazing these little guys survive the winter .. great series!! We have a halogen lamp above the feeder which keeps it from freezing.. it`s much appreciated by the hummers which visit us in southern British Columbia.

Thank you Sharon for viewing and your comment. The cold snap and snow that we had is unusual. The species in these photos are the Black-chinned, which is the most aggressive and stays the year around. Also there is a male and female Anna's, which I am surprised is still this far north, as the summer range is normally only into southern Oregon and to be this far north in winter is rare.
