This beautiful endangered orchid of the of the moist forest floor goes by many names. Calypso, Venus or lady's or angel slipper, pink slipper orchid, deer-head orchid, hider of the north. The orchid grows close to the ground, is a very small, bright colored, but still hard to see. A hiker cruising along can very well miss seeing this beautiful orchid, because it can normally only be found in old growth forest and is seldom found in young forests.
