Description
In late Spring to early Summer, usually by the end of June, the Roosevelt bull elk will grow their new antlers. During this time of growth the bulls will keep mostly to the open areas, do to the fact that the antlers are covered in velvet and soft. The antlers are easily bruised and deformed by contact. During this time many of the bulls may come together, as in this photo. By early August, the antlers will have hardened and the velvet will begin to drop off. Soon the bulls will disband and begin to prepare to fight for their groups of cow elk.
