Description
The Umpqua River Lighthouse has the only red lens on the Oregon Coast. The first order Fresnel lens is made up of 616 glass prisms made in France. The lens consists of both clear and red prisms. The red prisms are created by adding pure gold to the molten glass. The lens is five feet in diameter, ten feet high and weighs two tons. The hole at the top of the lens is for smoke and vapors from the original kerosene lamp to escape.
