Description
There are two types of Elderberry (red and Blue), a member of the Honeysuckle Family, and they both grow in the Northwest. This is a red elderberry because of the pyramid-shaped flowers, blue has flat-topped flowers. The berries of the blue plant are enjoyed by bears and wild pigeons in the fall, the birds can become very drunk, and fall from the trees. It is interesting to watch them pitch and flail. The blue elderberry is harvested by we humans, for pies, jelly and wine.
